Klein 10 Piece Grab and Go Impact Socket Set

Stop Lugging Your Whole Socket Set For Quick Fixes

Disclosure: I am a professional mechanic. I buy most of my own tools, and sometimes companies send me items to test. Nobody has ever paid me for an opinion. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

If you are tired of carrying around a whole 110-piece socket set and your tool cart at work or around the house when you just need a quick shot at a few bolts, I might have an answer for you. This is the Klein 10-piece Grab-and-Go socket set in SAE. I asked Klein for this set specifically, and they sent it to me to review. It was not a paid review, and I told them the same thing I tell everybody: I will take it to work, use it, and report back if I see any issues.

The sizes I actually reach for

I have my Tekton big 3/8-inch ratchet set, but you always go back to the same bunch of fasteners, at least where I am at. Three-quarter, 3/8, 1/2 inch and 9/16 are mainly the ones we use. It is handy to have the little 1/4-inch nut driver for the small fasteners in electrical boxes and stuff like that. We do have the flip socket set that takes care of those mostly, but now you have it in a little compact package. This is all the stuff I am going to need, and I am sure if you are in the electrical trades or whatever, this is plenty for you too.

That is the whole point of this set for me. Most people do not need every single size in between, you know, 1/4 inch and an inch and an eighth. I do use some of those a lot, and there are bigger bolts we take care of, but we have specific stuff for that, big impacts and whatnot. This little set is not trying to replace the big chest. It is the common sizes, right together, so I am not dragging the whole set across the shop for three bolts.

What the holder is like in your hand

They come with the handy hang-off-the-bag carabiner, as a lot of stuff is going to these days. What got me is the holder itself. It is a rubbery type, kind of like the regular bit set holder, and it has a lot of friction fit to it. It is not the plastic that is going to heat up and expand and get loose, or cool down and start cracking because it is cold and brittle. The sockets are color-coded and impact rated, with a nice deeply engraved size number and then paint fill also. You can read the size without squinting, and the Klein Tools brand looks laser etched on there.

I will be honest, it is a pretty hefty set. I would not call it lightweight at all. But yeah, you hang it on the side of the bag with the included carabiner, and if you are running out of room on your D-rings, you can hang it up on the belt loop kit up there on top. I am not normally a hang-it-on-the-bag person, because when I am out driving around in the golf cart, things start to move on their own. I like to usually pop it down in the bag. I put it in my bit bag, the one you have seen before where I carry most of my extra stuff, and it fits nicely in there. That bag already has the Klein flip socket set, my long security bits and some extra Vessel bits in it. It keeps everything out of my main tool bag so I can put tools in that, and these accessories stay where they need to stay and I can find them rather quickly.

The guard job I could have used it on yesterday

I tell you, I could have used this one yesterday. I took off a bunch of guards, and I had already got out of the truck, out of the cart, and I was over working on a couple of guards. There must have been eight or nine 9/16 bolts holding on the guard. I only had my little hand ratchet with me. I usually do put my impact driver in the cart and carry it with me, with my 3/8 extension, but I got in a hurry and it was like one of the first calls out of the chute. So I got over there and I had to hand undo it, which, you know, we do it all the time. But this would have been really handy over there. I could have zipped those all out and got down to the root of the problem instead of spending 15 minutes unbolting a guard to get to the sprocket that we were working on. Live and learn.

That is why this one is going to be right on the side of the main bag, or maybe I will slide it down in there. I might carry it in the bit bag too. If I put it in my main bag, I know I will have it with me. In industrial maintenance, half the battle is having the common size in your hand when you walk up to the machine, not back at the truck in a heavy chest.

How this one is different from my other Klein socket sets

This is the small SAE Grab-and-Go on the rubber holder and carabiner. It is a different job from the larger Klein socket sets I have written up. If you want to compare it with the Klein Tools 65301KNECT Impact Socket Set or the 33809 Grab-and-Go set, those reviews are linked below. Read this one as the little set that lives in the bit bag for the sizes I use every day, not as a full socket collection. That is also why the SAE-only lineup does not bother me here. These are the sizes I named above, the ones we keep going back to. For bigger work, I already have bigger, specific tools.

My take so far

I have used Klein for a long time, not exclusively, but anything I have of Klein always works wonderfully. I have heard of the problems, you know, with the screwdrivers with the rubber coming loose and stuff, but I have never had that, and I use them all day pretty much every day. This set feels like real tools, not toys, the markings are easy to read, and the rubber holder should not go brittle on me the way cheap plastic does. I am going to take it out, test it, and report back if I see any issues. If the sockets stay put in that friction holder, the sizes stay readable, and it saves me that walk back for the big set, then it has done exactly what I asked Klein for it to do.
